SCiO’s Handheld Molecular Food Scanner
Hashslush reports:
The SCiO food scanner is a handheld device that scans your food items and gives you related information about them on its accompanying app.
A prototype of the scanner was shown off at the TechCrunch Disrupt NY’s Hardware Alley, and the gadget is pretty darn impressive. SCiO is especially interesting because of its cost and size – being cheaper and way smaller than most spectrometers on the market currently.
Regarding feasibility:
Developed by a startup based in Tel Aviv, Israel, the device uses the technology of spectrometers that is plausible and is already in existence. What is remarkable though is the technological leap that the SCiO takes in miniaturizing the spectrometer using lower-cost optics combined with advanced signal processing algorithms.
Fascinating.
